Chapter 75: The Restaurant Owner Makes His Official Debut!
Chapter 75: The Restaurant Owner Makes His Official Debut!
The actual filming location for "2 Broke Girls" was Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Los Angeles.
As Chen Xun drove in, he looked at the film studios with different drama titles on them, a stark contrast to the green screens he had seen when filming "Thor."
This place feels more like everyday life!
Each film studio represents the lives of many people in a drama.
Rob dropped him off outside the studio used by "2 Broke Girls" and patted him on the shoulder:
"Relax, sitcoms aren't that serious. Just think of it as working at a friend's run-down restaurant."
Chen Xun nodded, took a deep breath, and went inside.
The interior of the studio was meticulously recreated as the interior of the Williamsburg Hotel.
A slightly run-down restaurant, but full of lively atmosphere.
The bottles and jars behind the counter and the oil stains on the menu were made incredibly realistically.
Several technicians are adjusting the overhead lights.
"Hey! Look who's here, our mysterious Eastern boss!"
A woman's voice, speaking very quickly, rang out.
Kat Dennings walked over from the restaurant's booths.
The favorability rating above your head is still at [55]!
She wore Max's signature yellow and red striped waitress dress, with a black trench coat over it. The dress had a very low neckline, revealing her impressive assets!
She hadn't put on her full makeup yet, but that颓废又拽气气 (颓废又拽气气 is a Chinese idiom meaning a combination of decadence and arrogance) vibe was already there.
"Kate!"
Chen Xun hugged her and felt the astonishing curve once again:
"I hope I'm not late!"
"Don't worry, there are still several hours before the audience can enter!"
Kate shrugged: "Today is just a rehearsal to familiarize myself with the layout, so you don't bump your head on the counter later."
Chen Xun never expected that there would be an audience during the rehearsal!
He couldn't help but feel a little nervous.
Just then, Beth Behes came bouncing over, her long blonde hair tied in a ponytail, wearing Caroline's socialite-style dress that was clearly out of place in the restaurant.
The pearl necklace around her neck was incredibly large!
"Chen! Welcome to New York's most promising restaurant!"
Her smile was radiant, carrying the innocent enthusiasm of Caroline.
"Thank you, I hope I don't lower the average attractiveness level here!"
Chen Xun made a joke.
Beth giggled:
"Come on, since you came, we've had to recalculate our standards for attractiveness!"
Beth Behes's favorability rating is 50.
A green attribute ball fell from Beth, carrying her outgoing energy.
[Sweet and outgoing charm +2]
Director Michael Patrick King walked over with the script:
"Chen, welcome to the team. Are you familiar with the script? Today's main purpose is to get you used to the rhythm of having a live audience..."
He pointed to the four corners of the ceiling:
"Remember those red indicator lights. When a light comes on, it means there's a joke coming up. You need to give the audience time to laugh; don't interrupt. That's called leaving room for laughter!"
Chen Xun nodded seriously.
This was something he had never encountered on a film set before.
"A sitcom is like a mini-stage play!"
The director added, "The pacing of the acting is important, but the emotional interaction with the audience is even more crucial!"
"Remember, Han Li isn't just a background character; you're one of the key figures in setting the tone for this restaurant. Your dry humor should contrast with Max's witty remarks."
[Director Michael Patnick King's approval rating: 40]
The director then introduced the other regular cast members.
Jonathan Cutter, who plays the cook Oleg, has a somewhat sleazy and comical air about him, and he winks and makes faces at Chen Xun.
Garrett Morris, who plays cashier Earl, is an older African-American actor who appears very composed and smiles as he nods to Chen Xun.
Jonathan Cutter (Oleg) has a favorability rating of 35.
Garrett Morris (Earl) Affection Level: 45
Movement begins.
Chen Xun needed to familiarize himself with all the routes from behind the counter to the dining table and back to the counter.
It cannot block the camera's view, nor can it conflict with the movement of other actors.
At first, he was a little inexperienced and almost tripped over the cables on the ground.
"Watch out, boss!"
Kate's character, Max, immediately improvised, chewing gum as she quipped:
"If you break it, we don't have the money to buy a new one."
Several staff members on site laughed.
Chen Xun laughed and casually added, "Then I'll deduct it from your salary."
Kate paused for a moment, then covered her exaggeratedly large chest:
"Damn capitalists!"
[Kate Dennings' favorability +5, current favorability 60]
A blue attribute ball fell from Kate.
[Improvisational comedy rhythm +3]
During the rehearsal, Chen Xun carefully observed Kate and Beth's performance style.
Kate's witty remarks were quick and accurate, with a nonchalant sharpness.
Beth excels at using exaggerated body language and facial expressions to portray Caroline's down-on-her-luck socialite persona.
He silently absorbed these experiences.
In the afternoon, the first batch of audience members began to enter the venue.
When they saw the completely realistic restaurant set and the actors, they murmured excitedly.
Chen Xun could sense an energy different from that used in filming.
That's the power of instant feedback!
The rehearsal officially began.
When Chen Xun first appeared before the audience, delivering his lines in a slightly reserved yet mysterious tone, and casually performed a coin trick, a soft chuckle and curious whispers rippled through the audience.
"Wow, the boss is quite interesting."
A member of the audience whispered.
It is rare for an Asian face to appear in the public eye with such a positive and mysterious image.
Chen Xun breathed a slight sigh of relief.
The director nodded behind the monitor.
During a break in rehearsals, Kate leaned over and handed him a bottle of water:
"Not bad, I wasn't nervous!"
"Mainly because Miss Max has such a strong presence, I don't dare to be intimidated."
Chen Xun unscrewed the water bottle.
Kate laughed: "If we stay like this, we can get along!"
Beth also came over to encourage him:
"Chen, your temperament is truly unique, a perfect match for the character of Han Li!"
[Beth Behess's favorability +5, current favorability 55]
Chen Xun discovered that the atmosphere on the set of this sitcom was indeed more relaxed and casual.
The interactions between the actors are more like those of real friends.
Rehearsals continue.
The opening scene features Max interacting with two young male diners.
Max unleashed a barrage of attacks, especially his frequent use of witty and sarcastic remarks:
"The older sister wears a hat to keep out the cold, while the idiot wears a hat to look cool!"
"Your tattoo is meant to infuriate your dad; he has no idea he's my father!"
……
It was followed by a few adult puns!
This drew applause and cheers from the entire audience!
[3 puns]
Chen Xun silently absorbed the information!
I feel like I've gained a deeper understanding of American culture.
After the rehearsal ended and the audience left, the director gave a brief summary, especially praising Chen Xun for quickly adapting to the rhythm of the event.
As Chen Xun looked at the gradually emptying studio, he felt as if he had just experienced a joyful party.
Stepping out of the photography studio.
Rob waited for him in the car: "How are you feeling?"
Chen Xun fastened his seatbelt and rubbed his face, which was a little stiff from smiling:
"It's like having three jobs at the same time: being an actor, a restaurant owner, and a stand-up comedy opening act."
Robert laughed heartily:
"Welcome to the world of sitcoms! Filming officially starts tomorrow, so get ready for more laughter and possible awkward silences."
"rest assured!"
Chen Xun looked out the window: "Boss Li of Han is ready to cast a divination at any time to save the day!"
