Chapter 54 Rogue
Chapter 54 Rogue
Ever since Zhou Ye learned that he was a good student, he has been asking him questions.
They're either asking him math questions or asking him for some top student notes.
A while ago, she couldn't even figure out English tenses. She sent him a screenshot of an English test paper, which was covered in red crosses, and she added a string of crying emojis next to it.
"Why is it so hard to speak English!" Zhou Ye complained vehemently during a video call that evening.
On the screen, she was wearing a black silk nightgown with a thin silver lace trim around the neckline. She was sitting cross-legged on the bed, with a SpongeBob SquarePants character grinning foolishly leaning against the pink blanket behind her.
Her hair was loose, probably from a recent shower, and not completely dry yet, with a damp strand clinging to her cheek.
"I really don't understand these things. Do I just lack the aptitude for languages?"
Wang Zian propped his phone up on the phone stand on his desk and walked around the room tidying up his things.
I'm about to graduate from high school, and the lease on my rented apartment in the school district is about to expire.
We must pack in advance.
As he stuffed a stack of completed practice exams into a wastepaper basket, he casually asked, "What's so difficult about them?"
"What exactly is the difference between the past tense and the present tense?" Zhou Ye thought for a moment, then bent his fingers and began to give examples one by one.
"That's simple. What's the difference between 'don't' and 'did't'?"
"One is the present tense, and the other is the past tense," Zhou Ye answered correctly and precisely.
"It's exactly the same as what's in the textbook!" Wang Zian said to her with a smile.
"Stop being sarcastic!" Zhou Ye raised an eyebrow, but the corners of his mouth were already turning up in a forced smile. "What difference do you think there is?"
"All you need is a precise translation, and you'll understand!" Wang Zian explained, "Don't means 'no' and did't means 'not'."
"Translate 'I didn't do my homework' and 'I didn't do my homework'!"
Zhou Ye thought for a moment: "I don't do my homework and I didn't do my homework."
"Absolutely right!" Wang Zian snapped his fingers. "See, you understand now!"
Zhou Ye suddenly felt a little dazed, as if he had grown a brain!
"As long as the Chinese translation is accurate enough, you can actually understand the logical structure of any language very easily."
Wang Zian put the stack of papers in his hand into the wastepaper basket, dusted off his hands, straightened up, looked at the screen, and explained: "'No' in this context means that you refused on the spot. 'Not' in this context means that the event has already happened, or that it happened a long time ago."
"The difference between these two words is the difference between the present tense and the past tense. You just haven't met anyone who explained this to you in a way you can understand."
Zhou Ye's eyes are getting brighter and brighter; he's definitely getting smarter.
"Wow! You're so amazing!" Her tone rose unconsciously, and she leaned forward, her face almost hitting the iPad's camera. "I feel like even our English teacher can't explain things as clearly as you."
Every time she talked about tenses, she used such complicated language, like "continuous context judgment on the timeline," and I lost focus after listening for two minutes.
"No!" Wang Zian shook his head. "She assumed you would definitely understand this kind of thing, so she subconsciously ignored it. It's like how math teachers these days don't teach you to recognize numbers! She assumes you already know these basic concepts."
"Okay~!"
Zhou Ye nodded ambiguously, then shook his head, then nodded again.
She shoved herself into the fluffy blankets, burying her chin behind SpongeBob's head, revealing only her bright, sparkling eyes.
On the other side of the screen, Wang Zian was arranging the books on the bookshelf neatly, his silhouette clearly defined by the lamplight.
He could still give her a lecture while packing his things, his tone calm and unhurried throughout, as if he were doing something that required a lot of brainpower.
She watched his profile as he bent down to lift a stack of books, her eyes darting around before she suddenly said, "Could you tutor me?"
Upon hearing this, Wang Zian turned to look at her.
On the screen, Zhou Ye is wearing black pajamas, lying face down on a pink bed with her hands supporting her chin. SpongeBob SquarePants is sandwiched between her elbows and the mattress, grinning from ear to ear.
Some are too young.
That unadorned face, captured by the camera, perfectly exemplified what it means to be naturally beautiful.
She still had that lazy and relaxed feeling that comes with having just taken a shower, and she didn't even seem to care about the camera angle.
Wang Zian withdrew his gaze and shook his head.
The girl was becoming increasingly unguarded with him, making video calls while lying on her bed in her pajamas, hugging a pillow, and behaving more and more boldly.
Fortunately, he was a decent person.
"Why are you shaking your head? Don't you want to?" Zhou Ye's lips involuntarily pouted.
She felt that her relationship with Prince An was getting better and better.
The two had been video calling each other for months, from winter to summer, from the Beijing Film Academy entrance exam hall to the countdown to the college entrance exam; he actually had the heart to refuse her.
If it were her, and Wang Zi'an came to her for help, she would definitely agree.
"I can help you. But isn't it a bit too late for you to be thinking about getting tutoring from me now?"
"It's not too late! There's still almost a month left!" Zhou Ye suddenly raised his upper body to prove that there was plenty of time.
She lifted it too abruptly, and the neckline of her pajamas slipped down her shoulder a little.
Wang Zian's gaze quickly shifted to the bookshelf.
Upon seeing this, Zhou Ye looked down and quickly covered his chest.
"You~~~" she wanted to curse.
"Hey!" Wang Zian turned around abruptly, reaching out to tap Zhou Ye's image on the screen; "This time it's not my fault!"
"What about last time~~~" Zhou Ye covered his collar, his face flushed.
"It wasn't my fault last time!" Wang Zian blurted out.
Zhou Ye's eyes gleamed, and his fingers clenched and unclenched at his collar.
She recalled that the results of the third round of auditions for the Beijing Film Academy were released some time ago.
She found out that she ranked 36th and Wang Zian ranked 37th; they both passed.
The two were still standing close together, but this time she was no longer behind him.
She was overjoyed and called him. In the heat of the moment, she accidentally blurted out, "This time, at least I'm not the one on the bottom."
After listening, Wang Zian remained silent for several seconds, then looked at her with a strange expression.
This guy actually... actually thought in that direction.
It took her a full three seconds to realize what she had said, and then both ends of the phone fell silent.
Wang Zian: If a girl blushes and tells you that she's not on the bottom this time, shouldn't you say that you're thinking dirty thoughts?
As Zhou Ye realized that he had indeed said something embarrassing, his face slowly turned red.
A blush started spreading from the base of her ears, climbing up her cheeks, and almost dyeing her entire face the color of a peach.
"Alright, stop blushing!" Wang Zian interrupted her reminiscence. "I've prepared some study notes for you. If you read and memorize the problem-solving methods in them, you'll definitely be able to get a decent score."
"I could have done it anyway," Zhou Ye said, a little annoyed that this guy was underestimating him.
She spent a lot of time and money on tutoring classes.
Zhou Ye hugged SpongeBob a little tighter, her eyes drooped slightly, and her eyelashes cast a small shadow on her cheek.
She paused, her tone suddenly shifting from playful banter to seriousness, and her voice softened considerably. "I just want my parents to see that their daughter is doing well in her studies."
Wang Zian had heard her share her story before and knew that she was a poor student in elementary school.
"For your filial piety, I will certainly help you; I will now use all my skills, so pay close attention. As for how much you can learn, that depends on your own destiny!"
Zhou Ye paused for a moment on the other side of the screen.
Wang Zian suddenly started spouting nonsense with a straight face, which would probably have stunned anyone else.
"Thank you, Master. I won't let you down!"
But this person is Zhou Ye! He's not only an actor, but sometimes he's also quite abstract, just like Wang Zi'an.
"Hahahaha~~!"
After the two finished acting, Zhou Ye couldn't help but burst into laughter, and SpongeBob rolled off his knees onto the blanket.
She rolled around on the bed with her iPad, laughing like a fish thrown ashore. Her once smooth and flowing hair was now a mess, like a feather duster with its feathers standing on end, covering her face.
She lay on the bed, her long hair spread out on the pillow, holding an iPad in her hands, the camera angled at a messy head of hair and half of her face flushed with laughter.
Prince An's keen eyes once again caught sight of the view inside the collar.
"Ahem!" He coughed, looking down.
Looking down at the neckline of his pajamas, Zhou Ye instantly understood. He reached out and brushed his disheveled hair away from his face, tucked it behind his ears, sat up straight, and straightened his collar.
"rogue."
When she said those two words, the corners of her mouth were still turned up, and the force of her insult was weak.
"I remember you said you'd help me with my lessons, I'm hanging up now; I'm so sleepy, morning self-study starts at 6:30 tomorrow."
She brought her face close to the camera, waved quickly at him, and then the screen went black.
