Chapter 48: Could it be that we sold it too early?
The door was pushed open, and a young man walked in.
With his well-defined features and impeccable bone structure and skin, Lin Dong recognized him at a glance, but his heart was not greatly stirred.
Li Jiaxin, however, proudly introduced him, "He just finished filming 'Bishonen' and is now filming 'City of Glass.' He's not a complete newcomer, but with his looks, he has the potential to become a star."
Lin Dong glanced at Li Jiaxin. "Let him introduce himself."
Li Jiaxin stuck out her tongue, her voice unconsciously trembling, "I'm a little excited!"
Then he turned to Wu Yanzu and said, "Ah Zu, this is the boss of Tengda. Please introduce yourself!"
Wu Yanzu was a little reserved. He just wanted to make some money. He was really skeptical about the possibility of him becoming popular, but that didn't stop him from respecting Lin Dong, the big boss.
He straightened his clothes, straightened his back, and then began, "Mr. Lin, my name is Wu Yanzu. I just returned to Hong Kong this year and recently filmed..."
He described his itinerary over the past six months and concluded by saying, "Thanks to Michelle for the recommendation, I'd like to sign with Tengda Company."
Lin Dong looked at the man who was known for his divine looks, gestured for him to sit down, and then slowly poured him a cup of tea.
"Thank you, Mr. Lin!"
"Aren't you going to ask about the compensation?" Lin Dong took a sip of his tea and then asked.
Wu Yanzu quickly put down his teacup and straightened his posture, saying, "As long as it's enough to live on, that's fine."
"Oh?"
"Director Yang Fan said I could become famous." Wu Yanzu pointed to his face, "But I didn't think so. So many people debut every year, but how many of them can become famous? But, after meeting you, Mr. Lin, my thinking changed."
Lin Dong smiled and looked at Li Jiaxin, "You have a good eye. Arrange for him to sign a contract! Also, Chen Xinjian has some projects. Arrange a suitable lead role for him."
Li Jiaxin's face immediately lit up with smugness, but she didn't show off in front of Lin Dong. "Okay, I'll take him to sign the contract, according to the C-level contract."
Lin Dong didn't object and waved for them to leave.
The so-called C-level contract refers to the contract signed by Fan Binbin. However, Fan Binbin needed Tengda's help at the time, so Lin Dong reduced his share by 0.5%.
Zhang Baizhi was a newcomer under contract, and Li Jiaxin did it on purpose.
After they left, Lin Dong was also thinking to himself that there were fewer good talents in Hong Kong at this stage, and that the mainland was still better!
Once I get to Beijing, I might be able to work with that top agent. Putting everything else aside, Wang Jinghua is extremely capable.
As for the fear that she might leave with a large group of artists like she did in her previous life, that's really overthinking it.
The world is bustling, all for profit; the world is in turmoil, all for gain. Given sufficient benefits, see who will follow suit.
But there's no rush. Every meal has its hardships, and things must be done step by step. Right now, the most important thing is Amazon's stock, as this affects the ease or difficulty of advancing his later plans.
Time flew by, and it was already the evening of the 29th. At three in the morning, the rain in Victoria Harbour had just stopped. A sliver of dim light shone through the gap in the curtains and fell on the foot of the bed.
Li Jiaxin leaned against the headboard, the light from the stock trading machine screen reflecting on her face.
The market is no longer moving. It's not a limit down; US stocks don't have limit downs. It's just that there are no buy orders.
There were few buyers and even fewer sellers, and the price had remained at 109.5 for almost half an hour without dropping even a penny.
She turned over and handed the stock trading machine to Lin Dong.
"Ah Dong, look—it's not falling anymore, no one's placing sell orders, and it's not rising either."
Lin Dong took the stock trading machine and glanced at it. There were many buy orders, but almost no sell orders; the trading volume was pitifully low. He put the machine back on the bedside table, his tone flat.
"Those who wanted to sell have sold out, and those who wanted to buy are still waiting."
Li Jiaxin blinked. "The sellers—have they all sold out?"
"Those who couldn't hold on ran away long ago." Lin Dong closed his eyes, his voice drowsy. "The rest are either stuck with their investments and don't want to move, or they're like us, looking at the long term."
The selling pressure has dried up, so the price has stopped falling. But the bulls are still waiting for a signal—who dares to rush in before seeing a large volume surge? Therefore, no one is placing buy orders.
His words were half speculation and half certainty. He didn't really understand every technical detail behind the betting odds, but he already knew the outcome—Amazon wouldn't die here.
…………
Kowloon Tong, facing the house.
Xiang Yeqiang sat in a chair in the study, with a stock trading machine in front of him.
He had closed out his entire Amazon position, but the code was still on his stock ticker screen: AMZN. 109.5.
Mrs. Xiang pushed open the door and came in, carrying two cups of ginseng tea. She placed one cup next to her husband and bent down to glance at the screen. Neither of them spoke.
The decline has stopped. It's no longer falling.
Xiang Yeqiang picked up the ginseng tea, but didn't drink it. The rim of the cup hovered near his lips for two seconds before he put it back down. Only one thought remained in his mind.
Could it be that we sold it too early?
Mrs. Xiang gently placed her hand on his shoulder. Her brows furrowed, and she seemed about to say something but swallowed it back, finally uttering only two words: "Sleep."
August 30th, Saturday.
May 31st, Sunday.
June 1st, Monday, Tengda Films.
Lin Dong had just sat down in his office when Chen Xinjian pushed the door open and came in. As usual, he was carrying that black-covered notebook. He sat down opposite Lin Dong at the desk and opened it.
"Mr. Lam, 'Mongkok Street' has finished its run this morning. The final box office was HK$710,000. After deducting revenue sharing and print costs, your share is HK$270,000."
"What about copyright?"
"The valuation is 300,000. The legal department has already drafted the transfer agreement, and we'll go through Tengda Company's acquisition process. We can make the payment after signing this afternoon."
Chen Xinjian closed his pen cap. "The two items combined recovered 570,000. The investment of 5 million resulted in a net loss of 4.43 million."
443 million.
According to the rule of ten times cashback, the system will return HK$4430 million to his personal account.
Even though this had happened four times already, Lin Dong was still slightly excited.
He familiarly opened the system panel and submitted the settlement. The moment the review progress bar finished, he leaned back in his chair, picked up the Pu'er tea on the table, took a sip, and concealed his excitement.
Chen Xinjian continued, "As for Fan Binbin, her scenes for 'Ma Yongzhen' were completed ahead of schedule. The termination procedures with Qiong Yao Company were all finalized yesterday, and the official termination letter has been filed. She plans to depart for Hong Kong the day after tomorrow."
Lin Dong calmed himself down and nodded. "Arrange for someone to pick her up from the airport. Have the logistics department find her an apartment; it doesn't need to be too big, just close to the company."
"Understood." Chen Xinjian jotted it down. "Regarding resources—what are Lin Sheng's considerations?"
"No rush." Lin Dong put down his teacup. "We'll talk about it when they arrive."

June 2nd, Tuesday. Happy Valley.
The clock struck 9:30. Li Jiaxin sat cross-legged on the sofa, her fingers resting on the telephone receiver, her fingernails turning white.
The numbers on the stock trading machine screen jumped – AMZN's code was followed by a line of small print: 2-for-1 stock split.
"Ah Dong—" she turned her head, her voice tight, "The shares have been split."
"Um."
A two-for-one stock split automatically halved the share price. The closing price before the split was 109.4, and the base price after the split was 54.7. Li Jiaxin's account held 151.2 million shares, and her cost basis changed from 86.5 to 43.25.
The stock price jumped up immediately after the stock split – 55.1, 55.3, 55.6.
