Chapter 7: Going to Study Abroad, Also Need to Roll Up a Roll
Chapter 7: Going to Study Abroad, Also Need to Roll Up a Roll
The film "Dog Bite Dog" performed exceptionally well after its release, largely due to Kim Hee-ae's involvement. The revised script perfectly captured the title "Dog Bite Dog," with the only positive character ultimately turning evil. It was a film about "dogs biting each other" for profit, brimming with satire and standing out in today's market—fresh and incredibly satisfying.
Because of this movie, Kang Woo-jin became the center of attention at school. Unable to bear the stares, he decided to take the entrance exam for higher education, which finally brought him some peace and quiet.
After discussing it with his family, Mads-Wu decided to take his son to New York. He had already contacted a decent school, and given Kang Woo-jin's English proficiency, transferring there midway through the semester wouldn't be a problem.
"Are you sure you want to go to New York? There are good schools in China too," Jiang Jingshu asked, still feeling uneasy.
"How about Denmark? China is also nice," Jiang Youzhen raised an eyebrow, deliberately mentioning Denmark and China.
Sure enough, after hearing that, Jiang Jingshu changed her tune, saying, "New York is good too. The TV series your dad starred in is quite popular, and Warner Bros. is interested in renewing his contract. Just live a good life with your dad there. If anyone causes you trouble, just go back to them."
Jiang Youzhen nodded. He knew that those places abroad were not very stable, but there were also many benefits. He didn't expect Mads Wu to take care of him. He was used to being careful and taciturn. Being low-key would also reduce trouble.
From the start of the school year to the Lunar New Year, Jiang Youzhen would check his email every day to see if he had received any new messages, but the result always left him feeling a little disappointed.
At Mads Wu's urging, after the study abroad arrangements were finalized, he wrote a letter and bought a gift, which he sent to Jeonju along with Mads Wu's gift.
He doesn't have many friends in China. Maybe people want to get to know him but are deterred by his overly mature demeanor. In short, there are all sorts of other issues.
All things considered, it seems I haven't even had contact with any members of the opposite sex who are my age.
The gift was sent along with the letter, and this time Kang Woo-jin received replies from Kim Ji-yong and Kim Tae-yeon.
The building block model I finished last time, and a storybook.
The handwriting on the letter was crooked, but the end was written in standard "Anders".
Seeing this, Jiang Youzhen felt much better.
Fortunately, this name has not been forgotten.
.
Just after January, Mads-Oh, carrying his suitcase, boarded a flight to New York with Kang Woo-jin after his wife said goodbye.
Compared to China, Mads Wu is quite popular in North America. He had acted in some obscure films before, but last year he switched to Warner Bros. and took on a teen drama series, which is what made him famous at the age of thirty.
Kang Woo-jin was quite surprised by his father's popularity in the United States; reporters even rushed over to interview him at the airport.
Fortunately, he understands English and can basically understand what the reporters are saying, especially when they are pointing their cameras at his face, he can still give them a calm look.
It turns out that good looks are always an advantage. As soon as he got out of the airport and into the car, Kang Woo-jin received business cards from several entertainment agencies.
Mads Wu looked at his son with some envy. When he first came to New York, he took the initiative to find audition opportunities and contacted many directors every day to ask for a chance to act. Unlike now, talent scouts would actually hand a little kid their business cards.
Mads Wu has a rented apartment in Manhattan. The area is relatively safe, since there is a patrol department across the street, and you can often see patrol officers coming and going.
The environment is a bit noisy.
From the moment he landed until he entered the apartment, Jiang Youzhen felt that his ears hadn't had a single minute of peace. This was incredibly unfriendly to him. He used the apartment phone to make an overseas call, letting Jiang Jingshu know he was safe and promising to call home every week to reassure his elderly relatives.
In his second month in New York, Kang Woo-jin successfully passed the entrance exam for Harvard Westlake. This school is full of geniuses, some of whom are even younger than Kang Woo-jin, which makes Kang Woo-jin want to push himself to the limit again.
Mads Wu was quite pleased and hosted a small party at his apartment, inviting several friends he had met in New York, most of whom were his co-stars from filming, as well as a few crew members he had met on set.
Thankfully, the apartment isn't small; otherwise, it wouldn't be big enough to accommodate a queue of ten or so people.
"Anders, congratulations, nice to meet you. My name is Jennifer Aniston."
Jennifer is a very beautiful woman, of mixed race, with a sexy figure and excellent looks. According to Mads Wu, he met Jennifer during an audition. The two had similar experiences, both being mixed-race actors with similar youthful appearances, and both faced rejections at auditions. The only relatively good thing was that they got a role in this TV series.
The agents who sign contracts with them abandon them on set and don't care anymore. Until they get the next valuable script, those agents won't give them a second glance. The current success of youth sitcoms is a good step forward.
Jiang Youzhen nodded and thanked Jennifer. During their conversation, he couldn't help but glance at Jennifer a few more times. He had to admit that she was indeed very beautiful, and it was no wonder that she was chosen by the director of a teen idol drama.
Basically, all the friends my dad knows are pretty much idol-like in appearance.
The party was quite lively. Several people drank, ate, and chatted, and even talked about the upcoming TV series. As for the reason for the party, "Kang Woo-jin," after greeting the adults, he went back to his room to read a book, and put on headphones so as not to be disturbed.
Knowing that Mads-Oh would be joining the film crew next week, Kang Woo-jin had been frequently chatting with him these past few days to maintain their father-son relationship. Of course, it wasn't for those few green dollars; the money he had saved up before was simply not enough in New York. He had already spent a lot just on books and other necessities.
Mads-Oh is very generous. He left most of his money to Kang Woo-jin. After joining the crew, the crew basically paid for all his expenses. Moreover, he has a lot of savings, so it's no problem for him to leave his son a considerable living allowance.
Once you go abroad, you'll find that regional and racial discrimination is rampant everywhere. To prevent his son from being bullied at school, Mads Wu found him several training classes. These classes taught him a few moves and helped him improve his physical fitness. There were also some study classes that emphasized that children with talent needed to be diligent and hardworking.
And so, Jiang Youzhen settled in New York. Apart from having to travel to school, he had things to do all the time, and every day was very fulfilling.
Mads Wu rarely returned after joining the film crew. The success of the TV series gave him a taste of success, and he received many scripts, but they were all similar youth comedies, which Mads Wu rejected.
He wanted to try a different style, but unfortunately, famous directors didn't want him, while those who did want him, Mads Wu, didn't think much of him.
These uneventful yet busy days continued until one day, Jiang Youzhen suddenly received a package from China. The box was large, and when he opened it, he found that in addition to some snacks sold in China, there were also several thick notebooks with plain covers.
"The script? Is it Mom's?"
The signature above is Jiang Jingshu. Knowing that Jiang Youzhen is interested in screenwriting, Jiang Jingshu packed all the drafts and discarded drafts of the screenplays she had written over the years into a box and sent them to her son.
Jiang Youzhen casually flipped through a few books, and when he saw a script draft that Jiang Jingshu had discarded, a plan suddenly popped into his mind.
