Chapter 399: Bite Here
Chapter 399: Bite Here
’Okay,’ Vera Xavier thought, ’maybe, just maybe, Nathaniel Nathan’s butt really *is* quite springy...’
’But this feeling is just too weird!’
Vera Xavier met his smiling eyes and instantly knew he’d been toying with her. She hmphed, grabbed his arm, and bit down hard.
It was definitely not a light bite, but the shameless man didn’t seem to feel any pain at all, watching her with a half-smile.
She kept her eyes on him as she bit his arm. Their gazes locked, and the atmosphere in the room instantly shifted again, a certain enchanting quality slowly flowing between them.
Vera suddenly felt there was no point in biting him anymore. She let go, shoved his arm away, and announced magnanimously, "I’ll spare you this one time!"
Nathaniel Nathan’s lips twitched. He sat up and looked at her. "Should I be thanking my lady for her mercy?"
The tears at the corners of her eyes hadn’t dried yet. Her thick lashes were still damp, and a single teardrop clung to her lower eyelid.
She looked so cute and lovely. Her unintentional charm made his heart flutter, and he felt even more certain of his excellent taste.
Vera waved a hand. "Of course. If you dare bully me again, I definitely won’t let you off so easily!"
Nathaniel really couldn’t hold it in and let out a low laugh.
Vera glared at him. She saw the red mark on his arm where she had just bitten him—a neat set of two rows of teeth marks. Though the skin wasn’t broken, a few of the imprints were starting to turn blue.
"Still laughing?" she said in a low voice. "Laugh again and I’ll bite you again!"
"Alright. Let’s try a different spot this time." Nathaniel pointed to his own lips. "Bite here!"
Vera: "..."
She bit her lip. ’The more I’m around him, the clearer it becomes. This guy’s cold, aloof public persona is just a facade. In front of me, he’s an out-and-out rogue!’
She took a deep breath. Recalling how things had almost gotten out of hand just now, she resolved that she would not kiss him!
So she asked him, "When are you returning to your unit?"
What she really wanted to ask was, ’Why haven’t you returned to your unit yet?’ She was afraid that being too direct would piss off Young Master Nathan, and he might turn back into a rogue.
His mission was complete. According to regulations, he was supposed to go back and debrief.
Nathaniel asked lightly, "You don’t want to be with me?"
Vera immediately detected the dangerous undercurrent in his tone and quickly said in a fawning manner, "Of course not! I was just afraid you’d have to leave first thing tomorrow morning and I’d be caught off guard... And I was also afraid I’d miss you."
Her words successfully pleased him. He looked at her and said, "I’ll be by your side until my next mission. Surprised? Shocked?"
Vera was indeed shocked, so she blurted out, "Don’t you need to return to your unit and debrief?"
"I’ll just have the deputy captain lead them back. The mission was a perfect success anyway, so it makes no real difference who goes back to debrief," Nathaniel said, his tone casual.
Vera’s eyes widened a little. "But I thought discipline in the military was strict. Is it really okay for you to do this?"
Nathaniel looked at her. "Discipline *is* strict. But in my opinion, protecting my own wife is more important than returning to base to debrief. Besides, Vera Xavier, are you trying to get rid of me?"
’He’s so difficult to handle,’ Vera thought. ’I had just the tiniest little thought, and he already sensed it!’
