Chapter 5 Qi Fei's Appraisal of Treasures
Chapter 5 Qi Fei's Appraisal of Treasures
"What's going on here?"
An hour later, the police from Lincheng hurriedly arrived at the scene. When a young detective saw the severed limbs scattered on the ground and smelled the sticky stench of blood in the air, he felt a wave of nausea and, after trying to hold it in, finally vomited with a "whoosh".
"Move aside, don't vomit here."
His mentor, an old detective, shoved him aside in an annoyed manner.
"Don't let them collect your information later."
"I'm so sorry, Master." The young detective shook his head. "I just didn't expect the scene to be this horrific... Are we really not in America?"
"Stop talking nonsense." The veteran detective's face was also grim. "Get to work!"
The young detective nodded repeatedly, quickly put on his gloves, and prepared to handle the scene.
But just then, the veteran detective pulled him back again.
"You don't need to handle the scene anymore," the veteran detective said. "Just go and put up the police tape."
"Oh, are you going to do it yourself?"
"No." The veteran detective shook his head. "It wasn't me either. I just received word that this case isn't under our jurisdiction. We just need to keep an eye on the crime scene."
The young detective was stunned.
How come this isn't their responsibility? Aren't murder cases handled by the criminal police?
Could it be that……
The young detective glanced back at the crime scene, and seeing the scattered guns and shell casings, he instantly understood.
These are foreign forces! Foreign armed groups have infiltrated and are stealing their national treasures!
The young detective felt he had figured everything out.
If that's the case, then it can't be these junior police officers in charge of this case. So who could it be?
CIA? Oh no, that's the American one.
KKB? Oh, that's dead.
National Security Bureau? That's possible.
But whichever it was, it was enough to excite the young detective. He never expected that he would get involved in such a big case so soon after graduating; he was truly lucky.
"Behave yourselves!" the veteran detective suddenly hissed. "They're here."
The young detective was immediately startled. He instinctively looked up and, sure enough, saw a black van parked not far from them. Then, a man and a woman wearing trench coats and sunglasses got out of the van and walked towards them.
Wow, that's impressive!
Is this the National Security Bureau?
The young detectives felt a surge of excitement, a sense of "a true man should be like this."
The two stopped in front of them, and the young detective then realized that neither of them was carrying a gun, except for the young woman who was carrying a black box, the purpose of which was unknown.
Although he had already guessed who they were, the veteran detective still dutifully stopped them: "Identity."
The young detective's gaze was involuntarily drawn to her. Although the woman was wearing sunglasses, her jade-like smooth chin and beautiful lip line were enough to determine that she was exceptionally beautiful, but her aura was so cold that it was impossible to look directly at her.
The man beside her gave him a completely different feeling. He was a bit older, with messy stubble on his chin, but there was a strange sense of harmony about him, which inexplicably reminded him of those down-on-their-luck secret agents in old movies—dusty and weary, but capable of pulling out a deadly weapon at any moment by reaching into their trench coats.
So cool!
The young detective's mind was racing.
A true man should be like this!
Next, it'll be time to pull out the National Security badge and introduce yourself in a cool way.
And what happened next was exactly as the young detective had expected. The man in sunglasses reached into his pocket, pulled out an ID, and handed it to the two of them.
Faced with the presented identification, the two detectives simultaneously leaned forward. The younger one's eyes gleamed with barely suppressed curiosity and excitement; he had long wanted to see for himself what the legendary "National Security" identification looked like. The older detective beside him, however, seemed uninterested, merely glancing at it according to procedure before waving him away—after all, in his view, this was nothing more than an unspoken formality when dealing with "this kind of thing."
However, when their gazes truly fell upon the contents of the open document, time seemed to freeze. The excitement on the young detective's face instantly froze, while a rare look of astonishment appeared in the usually calm eyes of the older detective.
Because this wasn't some kind of certificate, but a brightly colored business card, with four large characters prominently displayed in the center: "Qi Fei Jian Bao".
Below that are densely packed, colorful little words, such as "Qifei Appraises Treasures, Specializing in Appraising Genuine Treasures", "Affordable Prices, Never a Scam", "Live Stream Every Night at 8 PM", and "Please Join My Fan Club".
"What...is this thing?"
Even a seasoned detective who considered himself experienced and knowledgeable was somewhat bewildered at this moment.
An eerie silence fell over the scene.
The silence was broken by the crisp sound of leather shoes stomping, and a muffled groan forcibly suppressed in the throat.
Everyone looked over and saw the icy lady expressionlessly retract her high heel that was on the man's shoe, the movement as elegant as if she had merely crushed a cigarette butt.
The man's facial muscles twitched, and he winced in pain, but his survival instincts kicked in, and he instantly regained control of his expression. He snatched the livestream business card back as if electrocuted, forcing a smile that looked more like a grimace at the two dumbfounded detectives: "Haha, occupational hazard, occupational hazard... I grabbed the wrong one."
As he spoke, he frantically pulled out a "Special Affairs Assistance Certificate"—a much more normal-looking one with a police badge—from another pocket inside his trench coat.
Young detective, veteran detective: "..."
Finally, amidst the veteran detective's speechless expression and the young detective's shattered illusions, the man and woman successfully entered the cordon.
"You're going too far, Junior Sister Tang," Qi Fei complained in a low voice. "With so many outsiders watching, can't you give me any face?"
"Face?" the woman said coldly. "You've completely disgraced the Sword Bureau."
"I wasn't talking about the Sword-Wielding Bureau," Qi Fei muttered. "I'm a blogger with 100,000 followers, you can't just... Okay, okay, never mind, let's get to work."
Tang Shi ignored Qi Fei's complaints, instead choosing a blind spot where the police couldn't see her, and then opened the black box she had been carrying. Inside the box was an ancient sword.
She placed her finger on the sword's edge and made a light cut, severing her fingertip. But before the blood could even hit the ground, it was instantly absorbed by the ancient sword.
Then, the ancient sword seemed to come alive, emitting a soft humming sound.
Tang Shi gripped the sword hilt, and countless pieces of information flooded into his mind.
"How is it?" Qi Fei asked.
"There is indeed demonic energy here." Tang Shi nodded slightly. "It has awakened and is displaying its power here."
"Can you determine the level of demonic power?"
"We need to find someone to take care of first." Tang Shi looked around. "He seems to be gone."
No, the other one is still there.
"another?"
"Yes." Qi Fei smiled and pointed to the dried corpse not far away. "Isn't that Prince Jing of Dongshan still there? I think he won't refuse to let us take a test."
Tang poetry: "..."
Although Qi Fei was often so unreliable that it made people want to strangle him, Tang Shi had to admit that this guy was also very creative at times.
So she picked up her sword again and went to examine the body of Prince Jing of Dongshan.
"Demon power level 9." Tang Shi quickly finished the test. "Remaining remains level, but there are two body parts: the left eye and the left middle finger."
"The remains of two body parts combined?" Qi Fei stroked his chin. "They're barely within our processing range... Can I give them to you? I have a live broadcast tonight."
Tang Shi ignored Qi Fei, simply closed the black box, and prepared to find and deal with the monster.
The combined remains of the two corpses are not troublesome. Monsters of this level don't have much rationality; they're like wild beasts and can't go very far.
Based on her past experience, it could be done within an hour, without needing Qi Fei at all.
But just then, Qi Fei pressed down on her shoulder: "Wait."
Tang Shi frowned: "What's wrong?"
"Look over there."
Tang Shi looked in the direction Qi Fei pointed, and then her pupils narrowed slightly.
Because she saw a row of bloody footprints leading into the distance along the national highway.
"This is……"
"That human being possessed," Qi Fei said softly, "hasn't lost control yet."
