At Sulli's suggestion, the four of them sat down together for dinner.
However, Lin Chongji ate his meal somewhat absentmindedly.
She picked up a piece of pork belly with her chopsticks and dipped it three times in the sauce dish.
But her eyes were quick to glance at Liu Zimu every now and then, then look away again.
Her subtle movements were very discreet; she could even completely pretend to be listening to Choi Sulli.
"Yoona unnie, are you still going to eat this meat?" Choi Sulli suddenly pointed with her chopsticks at the piece of pork belly in her bowl, which was almost dripping with sauce.
Yoona looked down, exclaimed "Ah!", stuffed the piece of meat into her mouth, chewed it a couple of times, but couldn't taste it: "I've got something on my mind today."
Kwon Yuri sat next to her, barely saying a word the whole time.
She was usually the one who livened up the atmosphere at gatherings, but today she was so quiet it was like a different person.
Choi Sulli paused, and both she and Liu Zimu knew it was because of her older brother, but no one at the table mentioned it.
They are both people who expose others.
"Unnie, what foundation have you been using lately?" Sulli asked, resting her chin on her hand as she looked at Yuri. "Your skin looks better than the last time I saw you."
Kwon Yuri touched her face and forced a smile: "I changed the brand. I'll send you the link later."
Lin Yoona has finally stopped peeking at Liu Zimu.
She leaned back in her chair, arms crossed, a familiar smile on her lips, her doe eyes crinkling as if she were both laughing and plotting something.
"Did you guys watch the latest episode of 'Knowing Bros'?" she brought up the topic, her tone deliberately lighthearted. "Sulli, your friend IU is really popular, and it cracked me up."
Choi Sulli immediately perked up, put down her chopsticks, and quickly joined in: "I saw it! I laughed so hard my stomach hurt from Kang Ho-dong's expression."
Kwon Yuri chimed in, her voice a bit more lively than before: "I'm actually watching these variety shows and TV every day at home now. Joo-hyun's 'Running Man' just started airing not long ago, right? Zimu, don't you still have some related videos?"
Liu Zimu paused: "How come I didn't see it?"
Sulli's smile faltered for a moment, then she laughed again, "My oppa's cooking style is so cool, make me something delicious when we get home later."
Liu Zimu put down the soup bowl: "Okay, there are still some vegetables left. I'll make you some cold skewers when we get back!"
Yoona looked at the two of them, her eyes unreadable: "You two really live together?"
Sulli smiled, quite proudly: "Not bad! Yoona unnie, Oppa and I are living in a big house now."
Yoona clenched her fist under the table and then relaxed it, a slight smile playing on her lips, and didn't ask any more questions.
Sulli, he's a jerk!
"I'm going to the restroom." Liu Zimu couldn't understand what they were talking about; it was all women's stuff. He stood up, moved his chair back, and walked out.
Sulli didn't even look up; she was talking to Yuri about cat food and just gave a casual "hmm."
Liu Zimu went into the restroom, washed his face, then leaned against the wall and took out his phone.
There was an unread message on the screen, sent by Bae Joo-hyun. It was just one sentence: 【Liu Zimu, where are you?】
The message was sent three minutes ago.
Then the phone rang, and it was her again.
Liu Zimu thought for a moment, then answered the call.
Bae Joo-hyun didn't speak, but he could hear her breathing, which sounded very suppressed.
"Joohyun?" he called out.
There was no response on the other end, only heavier breathing, as if someone was suppressing something.
"Bae Joo-hyun," he called again, this time without using honorifics.
She finally spoke, but instead of speaking, she cried.
She was crying in a suppressed manner, as if she were crying with her mouth covered, and her voice was intermittent.
Liu Zimu stood against the wall without saying a word.
She cried for a long time before finally managing to squeeze out a voice from her throat: "Liu Zimu."
"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing." Her voice suddenly started to laugh again, but the laughter sounded worse than crying. "I just wanted to hear your voice."
Liu Zimu took a deep breath. Someone was walking towards him at the end of the corridor, their footsteps clattering on the floor tiles.
"Why are you crying? Where are you now?"
"They're all asleep in the dorm, I'm alone in the living room." Bae Joo-hyun's voice grew even lower, accompanied by a soft sniffle. "I'm fine, I just missed you. You haven't been replying to my messages lately, do you still hate me? We've been so busy lately, I haven't seen you in ages."
Liu Zimu opened his mouth as if to say something, but Bae Joo-hyun didn't give him the chance.
"I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have scared you like before, but I just couldn't help it." Her voice began to tremble again. "Every time I see you, my mind goes blank. I'm not like that, really, I wasn't like that before."
"I know," Liu Zimu said, though he didn't entirely agree.
"You don't know," she interrupted him, her voice suddenly rising a little before she lowered it again, "You don't know how scared I was. I was afraid you'd ignore me, afraid you'd hate me, afraid you'd only be with Choi Sulli and wouldn't talk to me anymore. I sent you so many messages, but you didn't reply to a single one. Today, while we were promoting a song, we met a senior artist who confessed to me. But I rejected him, and then I missed you even more."
The footsteps in the corridor grew closer.
Liu Zimu stepped aside to let a middle-aged man in a suit walk past him and enter the men's restroom.
"You're so good-looking, isn't it normal for people to pursue you?" he said, also lowering his voice.
"Pretty?" Her sobs subsided a little, but didn't stop. "What's the use of being pretty? Didn't you despise me?"
Listen to me, it's not that I look down on you, it's just that I already have...
'
"I won't listen." Bae Joo-hyun started to act like a child, "Every time you say something bad will happen, you left right after you said it last time and never came back."
Liu Zimu leaned against the wall and gave a wry smile.
With your personality, how could I not leave?
"You know I'm at the coffee shop every day. If you want some coffee, come on over, it's on me."
"You said the same thing last time, inviting me over for coffee, but when I got there, you were busy and barely paid any attention to me." Bae Joo-hyun was silent for a few seconds on the other end, then sniffed. "We're both so busy every day now, how could I possibly have time to see you?"
Liu Zimu opened his mouth, then closed it again.
He was indeed very busy that day; the store was packed with people, and he didn't even have time to look up.
Suddenly, it clicked in my head.
【bite-!】
[Random reward system triggered.]
[Congratulations, host, you have received a random reward: one ticket to KBS's "Music Bank" on December 7, 2018!]
Liu Zimu paused, thinking, "Damn system, you're really thoughtful!"
"Then next time I go, you can't be busy." Bae Joo-hyun, unaware of Liu Zimu's inner thoughts, made the request with a nasal tone.
Liu Zimu thought about it and realized that Pei Zhufa hadn't shown his yandere side in front of him during this period.
"Okay, as long as you don't go crazy, I promise I'll go to the KBS 'Music Bank' show the day after tomorrow to cheer you on!"
"Really?" Bae Joo-hyun's voice suddenly rose.
He didn't answer because he caught a glimpse of a figure appearing around the corner of the corridor.
Lim Yoona leaned against the corner wall, her hands in her down jacket pockets, tilting her head to look at him, her eyes like she was watching a play whose ending she already knew.
The phone in Liu Zimu's hand shook slightly.
On the other end of the phone, Bae Joo-hyun was still talking, her voice soft and weak: "Liu Zimu, why aren't you saying anything? Are you lying to me?"
Liu Zimu did not answer immediately, but stared at Lin Yoona, and Lin Yoona stared back at him.
That usually smiling face was expressionless at this moment, just a very calm expression, but his eyes were cold.
"Liu Zimu?" Pei Zhufa called out again on the other end of the phone.
Liu Zimu said into the phone, "Really, I have something to do, I have to hang up now!"
He put down his phone and looked at Lim Yoon-a again.
She didn't move; she just leaned against the wall, tilting her head to look at him.
Liu Zimu smiled, not minding at all, and walked past her, intending to return to the shop.
"Bae Joo-fa?" Im Yoon-a spoke as the two passed each other.
Liu Zimu remained silent.
"You were comforting her?" She tilted her head, her doe eyes cold. "Sulli was sitting inside, and you ran out to answer Bae Joo-hyun's call?"
She reached out and tapped his chest with her finger.
The force wasn't strong; it was as if they were checking if something was still there.
She withdrew her hand and smiled, revealing two rows of teeth—that chilling crocodile smile that sent shivers down your spine.
"Liu Zimu, you're really busy."
After making her joke, she turned and walked back, but stopped after a couple of steps without turning her head. Suddenly, she cursed, "You scumbag!"
Liu Zimu stood there, watching her go into the store first: What is this person thinking?
Meanwhile, in Red Velvet's dorm, Bae Joo-beol was all smiles, showing no sign of crying at all.
He was secretly pleased that what he had learned seemed to be quite useful.
